Job Description:

WEG Commercial Motors has an immediate career opportunity for a CNC Programmer. This position is best suited for a very detailed individual with a strong aptitude for computer work and who can work well under pressure. An individual who is well organized, mathematically oriented, has an understanding of basic safety procedures, has knowledge of metal machining, and enjoys working cross-departmentally with a variety of individuals is required. This position is located in our offices in Bluffton, IN and will require little travel.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Proficient with the set-up, operation and programming of CNC machines according to blueprints, specifications, manufacturing orders and work instructions.
  • Selects and obtains proper material and tooling for the job. Verifies CNC programs for completeness and accuracy. Revises programs as required for improved efficiency and/or quality. Designates required tooling and modifies as needed to manufacture parts to specification.
  • Assists supervisors, mechanical engineers and planners with work organization to implement continuous improvement and reduce down-time. Prepares the projects program, layout, tooling, inspection gauges and material.
  • Assists and trains machine operators as needed.
  • Recognizes improper machine functioning and makes required adjustments. Initiate and report repairs, write and modify programs for CNC machines as needed.
  • Able to identify, perform and troubleshoot CNC machine operations and programming issues for improved product quality and tooling life.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload. Individual must be able to proficiently demonstrate the ability to measure and work to close tolerances.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, the use of shop tools and measuring instruments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of Shop Floor Systems.
  • Familiar with standard practices, procedures and concepts within the metalworking field.
  • Ability to work under general supervision with a wide-degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Reports any safety violation, machining equipment misusage and/or improperly performed work to supervisor.
  • Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by federal, state and local government, Company, and HSE procedures.
  • Performs a variety of other tasks and duties.

Qualifications:

  • To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Analytical - Synthesizes complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Uses experience to complement data; understands the work flows and procedures. Ability to calculate and set controls which regulate machining factors (tool sequencing, speed, feed, depth & angle of cut).
  • Technical Skills - Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly and production equipment. Ability to design and optimize CNC programs for fastening components. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in troubleshooting machine problems and initiating repairs of machines.
  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens intently to others and seeks clarification; Provides clear and pleasant responses to inquires regardless of the situation; Presents complex concepts in a simple manner to achieve understanding of benefit plans at all levels of the organization. Demonstrates group presentation skills; Participates in meetings.
  • Team Work - Balances team and individual responsibilities; Exhibits objectivity and openness to others' views; Gives and welcomes feedback; Contributes to building a positive team spirit; Places success of team above own interests; Able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; Supports everyone's efforts to succeed; Recognizes accomplishments of team members.

Education and Experience:

  • Technical Schooling required
  • Knowledge of CNC programming, machinery and operating procedures, required.
  • Proficient in blueprint interpretation, key process parameters and data acquisition.
  • A minimum of two (2+) years of combined technical education and experience.
