Bluffton Motor Works has an immediate career opportunity for a progressive, forward thinking, analytical, disciplined, and organized HR Assistant in Bluffton, IN. This position is suited to a HR professional who thrives in a fast paced environment, supporting the company’s goals through effective management of human capital, and has a critical eye to process improvement.

Primary Function:

As a member of the Human Resources staff, the Assistant will be responsible for the recruitment of top talent to join the organization, new hire orientations, employee relations, supporting employee benefits, supporting the safety program and helping to run the day to day operations of the HR department.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Conducts recruitment effort for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students, and temporary employees.
  • Reviews applications/resumes to match experience with specific job related requirements.
  • Screens job applicants to fill entry level, professional, and technical job openings and works closely with hiring managers to set up phone and onsite interviews.
  • Sends out timely communications to applicants as they progress through the hiring process.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.

Employee Relations

  • Conducts new hire orientation.
  • Process new hire, status change and termination paperwork.
  • Provides first line response to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints.
  • Communicates various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations to employees and management
  • Maintains and coordinates employee newsletter.

Benefit Support

  • Respond to benefit inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefit enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
  • Assist employees regarding benefit claim issues and plan changes.
  • Assist with open enrollment process.

Safety Program

  • Support the safety program by tracking training records, licenses, certifications, etc.
  • Set regular schedule for and participate in monthly plant safety walks.
  • Assist with safety incident investigations and ensure safety reports get completed, tracked, filed and Worker’s Comp reports get submitted.

HR Operations

  • Participates in developing and attaining department goals, objectives and systems.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as necessary.
  • Maintains company organization charts, company newsletter, and employee directory.
  • Maintains Human Resource Information System records and compiles reports from database.
  • Prepare and maintain employee files; file papers and documents into appropriate employee files; perform paper and system audits as necessary.

Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to work with hourly and salary personnel
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to adhere to and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in handling sensitive, confidential information
  • Excellent communicator (oral and written) including the desire to ask questions and learn from co-workers.
  • Strong administrative and data management skills.
  • Ability to raise issues proactively and in a timely manner.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS systems (i.e. Paylocity).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of FMLA laws for all states, STD, Child Support, benefit enrollment, Americans with Disabilities, and all federal and state laws
  • Strong administrative and data management skills

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management with 2 - 5 years’ experience or related work experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
