Job Description:

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Buyer is responsible for the purchase of raw materials and services in support of the manufacturing operation. Employees in this position should be adaptable, enthusiastic for change and data oriented. Communication skills and self-direction are required, as is a high commitment to Cost and Inventory management.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify purchasing needs of the organization by analyzing MRP and inventory data to determine required purchases.   This role will place the purchase orders required.
  • Negotiate with Suppliers to get best possible pricing and payment options.  In addition, they will identify areas for cost management and reduction.  The will also analyze the impact of any pricing changes on goods and services.
  • Responsible for the management of the inventory. They assist in the receipt of purchased materials and services, and keep detailed records of purchases and stocks. They carefully monitor deliveries and any past due shipments.
  • Build relationships with suppliers and manage their performance. They conduct routine supplier business reviews, evaluating supplier performance and compliance

Experience and Skills:

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Full understanding of purchasing procedures for raw materials.
  • Understands concept of total product cost.
  • Purchase to control inventory
  • Familiar with lean concepts and Kanban
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Capable of working with windows based PC’s and Microsoft office tools (Word, Power Point, Excel) including outlook.
  • Familiar with JD Edwards or other MRP systems.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to thrive in a high-stress and fast-paced environment

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent degree.
  • 3 - 5 years’ work experience in purchasing, inventory control, and similar fields will be considered in lieu of degree.
